Meet Dr. Schmidt
JOSEPH SCHMIDT, DDS
A native of the Texas gulf coast, southeast of Houston, Dr. Schmidt has been setting the highest standards of excellence in dentistry for over 40 years! An esteemed member of the dental community, he is a graduate of several prestigious academic institutions.He did his undergraduate studies in chemistry and math at The University of Texas in Austin, and then progressed to the dental school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, attending the top dental program in the nation.
Dr. Schmidt graduated in the top 10% of his class, earning a Doctorate in Dental Science with high honors. Taking advantage of his time there, he also completed additional training in general dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics and orthodontics. Dr. Schmidt is also a graduate of the prestigious Rosenthal Institute for Cosmetic Dentistry in Manhattan, NY, as well as the Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, Florida. The Pankey Institute is the most highly acclaimed dental continuing education facility in the world. The primary concept taught at these institutes are principles of conservative, comprehensive dentistry. This included advanced smile design, reducing headaches, clenching, grinding and TMJ pains, restoring mouths to a comfortable, functional bites, and mastering the ability to treat the truly complex cases. Whenever possible, he also strives to deliver the simplest and easiest procedures necessary to achieve the desired results. He is a great listener, clearly hearing the desires of each individual patient. His goal is to provide dental care unequaled in beauty, thoroughness, efficiency, and gentleness to patients of all ages. He believes in a close family relationship with each of his patients. He loves dentistry and loves bringing health and beautiful smiles to all of his patients.
Staying up to date with the latest advancements and techniques in the field of dentistry, Dr. Schmidt has taken hundreds of continuing education hours. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, an active member in the American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He was a founding board member of the Central Texas Chapter of the Academy of General Dentistry, and held that board position for 25 years. The board’s purpose is to bring the highest quality dental speakers here to Austin.
Outside the office, Dr. Schmidt has 5 children who have scattered across the country. He enjoys giving back to his community. He has been heavily involved for the last 30 years with the Boy Scouts, leading and teaching the boys as well as the adults. (Dr. Schmidt is also an Eagle scout!). He loves his church, Austin Ridge Bible Church. In the rest of his spare time, he enjoys fixing everything, and really enjoys tennis, bay fishing, kayaking, camping, snow skiing, flying, gourmet cooking, and occasionally plays golf.
