Have you avoided your dental upkeep because of fear? Anxiety plagues many people when just the thought of the dentist enters their mind. However, you can erase your fears with the help of sedation dentistry. Our options for sedation include nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation. If you are looking for sedation dentistry in Austin, TX, we are happy to help you leave worry at the door each time you visit us!
How do I know which sedation is right for me?
Your dentist can discuss each sedation option and help you understand which sedation would be best for your appointment. Our sedation options vary in strength and can be adjusted to fit your dental needs. The best way to find out is to set up a sedation consultation!
What type of sedation do we offer?
This is our mildest form of sedation and is commonly known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide is given through a face mask and helps you feel calm and relaxed. You will not be bothered by surrounding sounds or smells, but you will be able to respond to the dentist throughout your appointment. The effects wear off minutes after the mask is removed, allowing you to return to normal activities right after your appointment. This sedation is safe for adults and children.
This sedation is administered in pill form. It starts working within minutes and is stronger than the nitrous oxide. Oral sedation takes longer to wear off and a friend or family member will need to be present to take you home following your appointment.
Will sedation make me fall asleep?
The milder sedation will just make you feel drowsy, but the stronger sedation will most likely have you counting sheep in no time. With either sedation, you will most likely remember little from your appointment and your appointment will be over before you know it. Sedation helps you feel relaxed and comfortable – not being bothered by surrounding sounds and smells.
Will I need to bring a driver with me if I use sedation?
With the nitrous oxide, the effects wear off within minutes and you will be safe to drive yourself home. However, you will need a driver with the oral sedation.
Can sedation really take away my dental fears?
Patients have testified that sedation dentistry has completely changed their outlook on the dentist. Many no longer dread or fear entering the office, knowing they can sit in the dental chair completely relaxed and at ease. Let sedation help you with your dental fears!
